Welcome to the Columbus, Georgia Childhood Lead Poisoning education and outreach website.
Lead remains a problem within our community and the City of Columbus wants to work with the community raising awareness. The program continues to strive to create healthy and lead-safe housing while facing the daily challenges of an ever-changing social-economic population who is in dire need of our assistance.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 310,000 US children were classified as “lead poisoned,” yet lead poisoning is entirely preventable. Lead poisoning can affect virtually every body system. Because lead poisoning often occurs with no distinct symptoms, it frequently goes unrecognized.

Abatement - A procedure that eliminates lead-based paint hazards or lead-based paints. The four types of abatement methods are replacement, removal, enclosure and encapsulation. Accreditation - the process of authorizing a training course provider to prepare risk assessors, lead inspectors, clearance examiners, abatement contractors, and other lead professionals for certification.
